We learned this when my grandpa had Lewy Body Dementia. All he wanted were sweets. And, the hospice nurse told my mom that's just how it is. The dementia brain is working hard, it makes the patients suffering from it crave sweets in an attempt to get more energy to keep that busy brain fueled.

Mimi is the same. She has stage 4 dementia and her favorite food is ice cream. Ice cream in German is Eis (pronounced "Ice") and I often think of her as the Eis Queen. So, I made this painting in photoshop of Mimi with her favorite thing. We had it printed and hung it in our hallway. 

​And, yes, she does eat other food. Meals that aren't full of sugar, she doesn't like those as much. 

This girl is my muse. She's so inspiring. She's such a fearless and unapologetic creator. She's takes time to have fun and be happy in life. She finds beautiful moments every day. I admire that so much. I always get bogged down with survival stress that I forget to be in the now. I get so bogged down by society's lame narrative of 'follow the path' that I lose my joy. I'm learning more and more to get back to my inner weirdo and listen to her. I've never been able to hide her, so why did I try to for so many years? I just thought that if I worked the job and got the paycheck and felt like a normal person in society that life would be easier but, it ended up being way harder. So, now I'm doing the hard thing of listening to my heart and hoping in the end everything will be easier.
