A goldmine of information.

If you're interested in health, longevity, and/or healing, this is the podcast for you. It is chuck full of helpful material about our bodies and how we heal. I learn something new with each episode and I'm someone that has been researching healing modalities for over a decade now while trying to heal myself. So, I've heard a lot of what's out there.

I appreciate how Matt Blackburn deep dives, tries out tons of stuff, and admits when he got something wrong in the past & shifts his opinions based on new information. So much of the health world is dogmatic and rigid. Sadly, I've gotten sucked into that many times but, one thing I've learned over and over is that there is no "one way" to heal and no "one answer".
This podcast takes me down so many rabbit holes of health. One rabbit hole I especially enjoyed is episode 188 about PEMF with Bryant Meyers. The sound was a bit choppy on Bryant's end for most of the episode that made it a bit challenging to listen to but the information was so interesting that it made it worth the effort.

PEMF stands for Pulsed ElectroMagnetic fields. And, according to Bryant's website, there have been "more than 10,000 scientific papers" written on PEMF and "2,000 double blind studies" done on PEMF. The longevity science alone makes me really excited about this technology. I want to try it out so bad but with high quality PEMF mats starting at just over $5,000, it might be awhile before I get my hands on one. In the meantime, I'm going to continue to learn about PEMF as it is fascinating!
Something I really enjoyed learning was that reiki healers emit pulsed magnetic fields, the same technology as these mats but from our own hands. Something most people don't know about me is that I've always had energy coming out of my hands. I've never understood it. It's happened my whole life. It's much weaker now than when I was a kid. And, when I learned about reiki, I became certified in it but never practiced it because it seemed so hokey, even though the energy that has flowed through my palms has been so noticeable my whole life. It's nice to actually know what that energy is now and that it has been tested. While I was married, I learned that the energy that comes out of my palms does heal. I did reiki on my husband almost every day working to relieve his headaches and pain in his ankle.

The YouTube videos embedded here are from Bryant's YouTube channel if you're curious to learn more. Be sure to check out that episode (linked above). And, to check out the Mito Life podcast itself, just click the button below.

A history of electricity and life.

Yeah, I know, sounds like a snooze fest, right?

Not to me!

This book is fascinating beyond words and at around 70 pages in, it gets into the guts of what this book is really about. The effects of electricity on our health and its relation to the flu. Cue most people rolling their eyes. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the people who think they know the most have almost always done the least research.

Bye you basic Felicias.

A lot of us have probably seen this meme floating around social media

I always wondered what the deal was with it and why anyone would think that something like the flu, that's been around for as long as history has been recorded could have any connection with new technology like cell towers. And, I filed the whole theory under "there could be something there but seems extremely unlikely." Where I think most people would only see "crazy". I've learned that this is a huge, fascinating, and often surprising world where we shouldn't blindly rule out most things no matter how crazy they seem.

If you check out sources on this phenomena like Reuters, they'll tell you it's false as hell. I don't trust "fact checkers" anymore in this era where everyone seems to be bought, I'd rather do research myself and come to my own conclusions using critical thinking. Something that used to be encouraged and a sign a being a reasonable human being but is now an act of rebellion in today's society. And can easily make you a figurative witch to be burned at the stake.

Anyway, I find all the fact-checking sites ruling this false as odd because The Invisible Rainbow is as thick as a dictionary and over 1/4 of it is the bibliography. Could it still be BS? Sure. But, let's dig into one little thing.

What I found particularly interesting was the section on virologist Robert Edgar Hope-Simpson whose career spanned 71 years and was one of the world's authorities on the epidemiology of influenza who, toward the end of his career in 1992, still had so many questions about the flu like:
  • Why do flu epidemics end?
  • Why don't out-of-season epidemics spread?
  • How do epidemics explode over whole countries at once, and disappear just as miraculously, as if suddenly prohibited?
  • How is it possible that flu epidemics traveled at the same blinding speed in the past centuries as they do today?
  • How does the virus accomplish its so-called "vanishing trick"?
Robert had another theory about the vanishing trick, one that's taken more seriously, and that is vitamin D. Even if this is correct, it only answers one aspect of the many mysterious questions listed above (and more that aren't listed). As you read through the book and explore these other mysteries of flus, you begin to see that there very well appears to be other factors at play...

If you want to go down the rabbit hole even further...

I thought of this book a lot while listening to this podcast.
The interview begins at the 10 minute mark if you aren't feeling the intro.

Welcome back!

I've been beaning for 720 days! That's enough beans to fill an olympic size swimming pool!

As usual, I have a lot to share.

Last mitosis, I promised to write about MCAS in this installment. But, then I realized it may be too much so I made it a post of its own. If you have a lot of food sensitivities, weird symptoms, and no protocol seems to help, you may have MCAS. You can read about it here.  On to some big news:

I'm taking a break from beans.

I've been on the bean protocol for almost 2 years now and I've had some amazing improvements. But, those were mostly in the beginning. So many things have gone downhill and keep sinking more and more. So, towards the end of this mitosis, I just stopped eating beans. In the back of my mind I had been wondering if a bean break was the right move. Ultimately, my body told me no more beans for now.

I'm not be done with beans forever.

I feel like right now, the fiber is not doing my struggling gut any favors. My gut is begging for a break. I'm also starting a healing program with a naturopath. I finally have the funds to test everything. I'm planning on making posts about that process to pick up where the beans have left off. So check for those in the future. I'm thinking they'll be posted every 3 months like I've been doing with the bean posts.

I'm excited to work with this new doctor. She explained my blood sugar crashes!

You know how stress spikes your cortisol but chronic stress can actually drop your cortisol levels?

Well, our bodies need cortisol to act as a cushion to prevent blood sugar crashes. 🤯 So, that's probably why I'm struggling so freaking hard on digestive enzymes. And, why any little bit of sugar leads to a crash. I LOVE when things make sense. So many weird things go on with my body and I've always known there was a reason (or many) as to why, but never made much progress toward those answers. So, to hear something like that gives me hope that I'm not such a dire case after all and that with some small changes, I have a chance at getting better. Anyway, let's move on.

With this mitosis, I found my new favorite thing in the whole wide world.

"You're so sensitive."

If only I had a dollar for every time I've heard that.

I've been confused my whole life how other people could:
  • Drink alcohol
  • Eat anything they want
  • Maintain friendships
  • Concentrate
  • Travel
  • Smoke
  • Wear perfume
  • Do a lot of activities
  • Function without sleep (pull all-nighters)
  • Have fun and function in loud environments (bars and restaurants)
  • Talk endlessly and easily
  • Not have constant bloat and gut pain
  • Feel rested after they sleep
  • Remember things
  • and so on

Everything hurts.

And, every year it gets worse. No matter what I try. Nothing helps. In fact, most things seem to make everything worse. And, I've tried A LOT.

What the hell is going on?

I've been asking myself that question for decades. Yes, decades.

I've been sick my whole life.
