June 24th 2021 marks the end of my 4th mitosis on The Bean Protocol! 🎉

Ok, let's get started!

Pain-free periods are a thing.

Yes. You read that right. It's possible to have a PAIN-FREE period! Like, not even a slight cramp. I had no clue!

For most of my life, that time of the month meant cramping so severe it was blinding. I would lay in bed massaging my legs, begging them to function so I could stand up and get ready for work. Nausea was constant and severe, it made choking down food a painful job. And, then there was the fatigue. A crushing weight, ever present, the feeling of an elephant riding on my shoulders and the skin on my face feeling like the melting wax of a lit candle. With fatigue comes the feeling of being in a tunnel, with your daily life far away at the opening, where you desperately struggle to see and hear your surroundings. This was often my first day of my period and it was always a day to just survive. The following days of my period would always be much better but with what I now realize was heavy bleeding, very heavy.

I want to break down my periods during this mitosis.

  1. My first period during this mitosis was business as usual for a bean period. That meant light cramping, no nausea, and a flow so light it has me realizing why regular and light tampons even exist.
  2. Well, the second period of my 4th mitosis had NO CRAMPING. NONE. ZERO. And, a mild amount of fatigue. Can someone check to see if hell froze over? Did I mention the hormonal acne is gone as well?
  3. My last period of this mitosis hit on a rough day. The week prior I found out my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and was scheduled to have surgery the following week. I bought a plane ticket right away from Munich to North Carolina. 5 hours into my first flight my period started. Pre-beans, I would have been in hell. Thankfully, with beans on my side, I was just fine! I was able to travel for 24 hours, without sleep, in a pandemic, alone, chronically ill, knowing my mom had cancer (massively stressed), around people and places with perfume and I was fine. Holy moly. Was I exhausted? You know it. Was I stressed? Absolutely. Yet, I was still ok. BEANS!

Overview

  • Period pain disappeared
  • A large amount of gray hairs reversed
  • Resilience is way up (Wow!)
  • Thyroid is still unchanged
  • My weight is still up from 125 lbs to 139 lbs (I was finally near a scale again)
  • Improvements and symptoms cycle (appear and disappear)

Thyroid Function

  • No Change. I'm still waiting on this puppy to heal. It helps having so many other positives because it makes waiting on my thyroid easier. But, oh man, am I excited to eventually have a healed thyroid.

MCS

  • Wowza! I was holding back tears at Hobby Lobby in line at the cash register the other day. I had slowly walked through the whole store past perfume doused people, through aisles of cinnamon scent bags, and next to Yankee Candles with... NO REACTION! I probably looked like a head case but the tears of happiness were trying to flow. I held them in. I held them and thought about how cool it felt to feel 'normal' for once. It's been a LONG time. I still have MCS flares. It isn't perfect. It's been super challenging being in the US and exposed to so many scents again. It has literally felt like I'm eating a bar of soap a lot of the time because of how strong the scents are here but, I've made so much progress and I can't wait to make more!

Skin, Hair, and Nails

  • Hormonal acne is GONE! It was not normal for me to have. It showed up with the beans and has now resolved itself.
  • My skin dried out for about a month then replenished better than it was before. It is so interesting how symptoms cycle and evolve on this protocol. I didn't think my skin could possibly feel better than before but the beans have surprised me once again.
  • A lot of my gray hair has reversed! What!?! Yeah! Don't get me wrong, I still have grays, I just have WAY LESS.

Digestion and Poop

  • Pooping great still! Usually my body shuts down when I travel and it's perfectly normal for me to not poop for a week or so after flying but, I flew internationally, pooped on the plane (that's a first!) and continued to poop at least once a day. Whose butthole is this?
  • Bloating is back. I know it's from stress. It is the single hardest thing to get rid of. The other day Unique Hammond was talking about how she has a gene variant that causes her to produce stress hormones more easily and she actively needs to cultivate calm. I don't know which gene it is but I'd bet anything I have that too. Creating calm feels like a full-time job, one that I very much suck at.
  • Gas is at a minimum to nonexistent. How can I have so much bloating and almost no farts? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mood, Sleep, and Energy

  • Mood continues to be stable and calm. I still experience a lot of stress but, I'm able to handle it better.
  • Almost no racing thoughts.
  • Concentration is still meh but, I've noticed a slight improvement. I still turn into a zombie when it's cloudy or I'm ovulating.
  • Sleep is great.
  • Energy continues but I have some very sleepy foggy days. I've noticed I have these sleepy foggy day flare ups on cloudy days and when ovulating.

Face, Body, and Periods

  • I continue to have color in my face and lips.
  • I weighed myself. 125 lbs to 139. I gained the weight earlier this year but was finally able to weigh myself.
  • Fibromyalgia pain remains gone.
  • Ovulation continues to be challenging. It's when most of my symptoms continue to flare up. Fatigue, vertigo, hives, brain fog, etc.

Extras

  • I emailed Karen the other day about her thoughts on digestive enzymes or if I could eat apple peels to help aid my digestion. I'm just waiting to hear back.

Why are you asking Karen about apple peel?

I'm a curious soul. I never stop mining for information. I can't help it, it's so deep in my nature I don't even realize I'm doing it. I also forget a lot due to my poor memory from autoimmune disease, 🤷🏻‍♀️oh well, more to re-learn. 😆 Anyway, my friend Ian hit me up earlier this year and told me about a pre-order for a book from Joel Greene who he said was super knowledgeable with health and wellness and thought I'd dig his stuff so I placed my order for his new book The Immunity Code.

I'm really enjoying the book so far. It's fascinating and way better than most health and wellness books. Joel really does his research. It gives me so much to ponder and consider. And, one of those things I've been thinking about is eating apple peel to heal my gut.

So, why apple peel? According to Joel, eating apple peel is one of the only ways to feed a very specific bacteria in your gut called Akkermansia. And, this Akkermansia bacteria is most responsible for the health of your gut lining. He suggests eating the peel from 3 apples each morning before breakfast. Maybe it's what my gut needs?

I know the fruit of the apple is a no-go on TBP but the peel is pretty bitter. Karen Hurd says my gut issues are due to stress and I totally agree but, can't a girl get some help? I'm already meditating all time. So, I'm waiting to hear her thoughts. Which are probably "let the beans do their work!" And, I'm trying my hardest to stay the course but with my curiosity always distracts me with different things to try to heal better and faster.
